This guide explains the state scheme. Raceview, Underwood and Avoca are currently listed in the official Free Kindy Finder. Confirm participation and programme details for your chosen centre and enrolment year; Raceview 2 participation still needs confirmation.
What does Free Kindy cover?
Eligible children attending a Queensland Government-approved Free Kindy programme can access 15 hours of Kindergarten each week for 40 weeks of the year. The programme is led by a qualified early childhood teacher. Queensland Government: Free Kindy
When can my child start?
Your child must turn 4 by 30 June in the year they attend. For the usual 2027 Kindy year, this means children born from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023. Use the government's age calculator and discuss your child's circumstances with the centre. Check Kindy starting age
Does this make the whole childcare day free?
No. In long day care, Free Kindy covers the eligible Kindergarten programme component—not every hour of care. Fees can apply for additional care and other permitted charges. Child Care Subsidy may help with additional care if your family is eligible. Ask for a written fee estimate showing the programme hours, funding and remaining fees. Read about fees and assistance
What should I check before enrolling?
- Is this centre approved and participating in Free Kindy for my child's enrolment year?
- Which days and times make up the 15-hour programme?
- What will I pay for additional care, holidays and any permitted fees?
- Which age and eligibility documents are needed?
Funding applies at one approved Kindergarten programme at a time. Tell the centre if your child attends another funded programme. Official eligibility guidance
